Nicknamed "Old Pueblo," Tucson, the third largest city in Arizona after Phoenix and Mesa, is surrounded by mountain ranges. The Saguaro National Park is home to the saguaro cacti that only naturally occur in the Sonoran Desert, where the park is located. The Bajada Loop Drive provides picturesque views of the park, while offering many hiking trails. The Sonoran Desert also features the popular Arizona-Sonoran Desert Museum.

The Mount Lemmon Recreation Area at the end of the Catalina Highway is a great hiking destination. The popular Aspen-Marshall Gulch Loop trail extends for 5 miles and climbs over a thousand feet in elevation. As you travel for about half an hour north from Tuscon, you'll reach Biosphere 2. It's a location which  resembles a landscape on Mars! For a personal desert experience though, you need to get on a horse or mountain bike and just sail into the desert.
