The Kailua Kona fishing village was transformed into a small seaport with the arrival of Christian missionaries in Big Island, Hawaii, who built churches and residencies. Things you can enjoy at Kailua Kona include diving and snorkeling, surfing, hiking, and horseback riding. Two of best spots for relaxation and swimming are the Kauna'oa and Hapuna Beach State Park. King Kamehameha, who united the Hawaiian islands, began the renovation of this ancient temple and came here to seek wisdom and guidance during the last years of his life.
