About Kailua Kona

What could be more exciting than visiting a location that’s at the bottom of a volcano? Well, Kailua Kona is just such a place, situated below Hualalai Volcano! The Kailua Kona fishing village was transformed into a small seaport with the arrival of Christian missionaries in Big Island, Hawaii, who built churches and residencies. Things you can enjoy at Kailua Kona include diving and snorkeling, surfing, hiking, and horseback riding. Two of best spots for relaxation and swimming are the Kauna'oa and Hapuna Beach State Park. Sunsets viewed from the Kailua Kona seawall are always spectacular.

The ancient Ahu'ena Heiau temple at Kailua Kona is a treat for guests of Hawaii Vacation Rentals, who are also history buffs. King Kamehameha, who united the Hawaiian islands, began the renovation of this ancient temple and came here to seek wisdom and guidance during the last years of his life. Kamehemaha's son Liholiho broke the edict of not eating with women that was maintained for long time, at this temple. He met with queens Keopuolani and Ka'ahumanu here and ushered in a new era in male/female relations in Hawaii.

The Kona Coffee Living History Farm at Kailua Kona is a working museum illustrating the history of Kona Coffee. What’s coffee got to do in a vacation? Well, you’ll understand when you realize that Kona Coffee has been instrumental in shaping the Hawaiian economy, as it’s one of the most expensive coffees in the world. Enjoy a hot (because of the Hualalai Volcano) and refreshing vacation at Kailua Kona, with golf courses and submarine rides as well as riding through volcano paths.
