About Vacation Rentals in Lubec

From stunning coastline hikes to regional food to hand crafted items, Lubec and the Downeast Region offers many opportunities to experience the unique beauty and culture of the area. Lubec is located on the banks of the St. Croix River near the United States / Canada border. This former shipbuilding and sardine-packing town has the distinction of being the first town in the US to see the sunrise. Its rural beauty shines and is a place much appreciated by those who love the great outdoors. Lubec’s surrounding terrain offers a rugged coastal setting and natural beauty, combined with solitude and tranquility rarely found on other more frequented parts of the Maine coast.

With activities, affordable services and amenities to welcome and satisfy entrepreneurs, vacationing singles, couples and families, Lubec is becoming the natural destination of choice for all who love the great outdoors. Visit the Burnham Tavern in Machias if you are eager to know the history of the US. For outdoor fun Quoddy Head State Park, located just outside of Lubec is the right place. Beachcombing, hiking, picnicking, and a close-up view of Maine's only red and white lighthouse are the big draws in this park. The Petit Manan National Wildlife Refuge near Steuben is another place for more outdoor fun. This 2,166 acre park occupies a peninsula with 10 miles of rocky shoreline as well as three offshore islands. The Hollingsworth Trail makes its way through the refuge. See the Ruggles House in Columbia Falls, built for lumber baron Judge Thomas Ruggles, famous for its unsupported "flying staircase" and intricately carved moldings.

Lubec is home to Quoddy Head State Park, the eastern most point in the US, which is marked by candy-striped West Quoddy Head Lighthouse, which was constructed in 1808. This park is where the Maine coast meets New Brunswick, and covers nearly 500 acres and features rocky cliffs that rise 80 feet above the ocean. You can also find sandy beaches in Lubec for swimming, boating, fishing, sailing and hiking. Lubec also makes a good base for day trips to Canada’s Campobello Island.
